Eyecare for Children
Most children have excellent sight and do not need to wear glasses. However, the earlier any problems are picked up the better the outcome.
Sight tests for children under 16 years old are FREE under the NHS and those aged 16 to 18 in full time education are also covered by the NHS.
Typical signs that your child may be struggling visually include but are not limited to:
-
Complaints about blurred vision or headaches
-
Avoiding reading or writing
-
Has poor concentration levels at school
-
Sits too close to the TV
-
Frowning when trying to focus
-
You can visibly see the eye turning in or out (tends to be more noticeable when tired)
Ideally, if there is any family history of spectacles being worn when young or history of squints, we would still prefer to test the children annually even if you have no current concerns.
